Negative Effects of Unbalanced pH in Your Spa Water

pH and alkalinity can have drastic effects on your spa water and your SKIN! Believe it or not, if left unchecked calcium will build up on the surface of your hot tub beneath the water line. Furthermore and in our opinion, you really don't want to sit in a spa that has unhealthy spa water.

This calcium buildup feels like scratchy sandpaper and is difficult to remove, not to mention the fact that it’s labor intensive … but NOT IMPOSSIBLE so don’t leave it for too long or the process to remove it will be even MORE labor intensive.

Thankfully Waters Choice has a suggestion!

 Push pH Levels Down

First! ALWAYS TEST your water .... what do your test strips tell you? Is your pH too high? Make sure you're using UNEXPIRED water testing strips. It makes a difference! Trust us.

Push the pH of your hot tub water to the low side of normal and keep it there until the chemical imbalance loosens the calcium buildup. Then it’s easier to scrub off. While your tub still has water, use a washcloth or green scrubby sponge to help remove the calcium.

Or, if you'd prefer, empty your water and using a little vinegar, scrub the inside of your tub, then rinse.

As a side note, if you choose to scrub your spa with water in it, make sure to clean your hot tub filters often throughout this process.

Other Reasons Spa Has Calcium Buildup

One more thing, Alkalinity that’s too high or too low can make it difficult to balance and maintain a stable pH level. Also, spa plumbing lines that need Clean & Drained will make it hard to balance your water as well.
